Michael D.Wade
In November I officially announced my candidacy for Sheriff of Muscatine County for the 2008 election. I appreciate this opportunity to introduce myself and inform you of the reasons why I am running for Sheriff.
I am Michael David Wade. I was raised in Wilton, Iowa. My parents are the late David "Luke" and Carol Wade. My father was Captain for the Muscatine County Sheriffs Department and my mother is the current Mayor of Wilton. I have one brother, Justin, who works for the State Fire Marshall's Office in Stockton, Iowa.
I am a 1986 graduate of Witon High School, where I received various honors in football and track. For my prerequisites for Palmer College of Chiropractic, I attended Scott Community College. In 2005, I attended the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, Class 203.
At the age of 6, I began mowing lawns for many Wilton residents. I worked 6 1/2 years for North Star Steel in Wilton, where I was very active with the United SteelWorkers of America, Local 8581, serving on the Negotiation Committee. I also served on the North Star Steel Safety Committee. In 1991, I started Wade's Lawn Service. In 1994, I purchased Evergreen Lawn Service of Bettendorf, Iowa and I still own and operate it today.
My father served 30 years on the Muscainte County Sheriffs Department until his death in 2001. He was well respected by all. Because of my father, I joined the Muscatine County Sheriffs Department in 2004.
In 2006, I married my wife Lorie. Our combined families made one BIG family. We each had 3, making a total of 6 wonderful Children. TJ, 17, Tyler, 12, Bryce, 12, Kendai, 8, Aaliyah, 5, Tao, 4. Lorie and I purchased a home in Muscatine, where we are very happy. Lorie Started at Applebee's over 10 years ago, where she loves working with the public. I am a member of Grace United Church in Wilton, and Lorie and I attend Fruitland Baptist Church, in Fruitland. I'm also a past member of the Masonic Temple in Wilton.
I am running for Muscatine County Sheriff, because first and foremost, I love our Community. It is a wonderful place to live. I also believe that you should "Grow where you are planted." I read that somewhere and use that as my motto.
MY GOALS AS YOUR NEXT SHERIFF:
* I will make the Sheriffs office more accessible to the public.
* I will have a better working relationship with all Emergency Response Agencies in the county, as well as all other area agencies.
* I will work within the budget to serve you better.
* I will look for other resources, such as state and federal grants, to equip our officers with the latest technologies while keeping the successfully implemented resources that our department currently has.
* I will work for a modified work schedule, to better serve you, our deputies, and their families.
* I will focus on the youth in the community with Drug Abuse and Crime Prevention.
* I will move forward with plans for the expansion of the Muscainte County Jail, to allow for housing of more federal inmates, which a source of extra revenue for our county.
* I will take a proactive approach to all levels of Policing and Investigations, as well as Crime Prevention.
* I will make sure each deputy is able to attend continuing education classes and seminars.
* I will bring back regularly scheduled meetings for the entire Sheriffs Office, to make sure that everyone knows that we are a team and that everyone is able to voice their ideas, views and concerns.
* I will be a working Sheriff as much as possible. I will be there for you!
*My ultimate goal is to "Keep Muscatine County a safe place to live for generations to come."
Finally, I'm not interested in using the position as Muscatine County Sheriff as a stepping stone to any higher government office. I know that consistent leadership is the key to a successful operation. Therefore, I am committed to serving Muscatine County as your Sheriff for many, many YEARS!
